⚾ Situation
You are the first baseman. There are runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.
Late in the game, your team is up by one run. You field a high hopper.
Where do you throw?
✔ Answer
Throw home. The other team will send the runner from 3rd on any ground ball. Preventing the tying run late in the game is absolutely necessary.
The catcher has the force — R3 has to go. Don't let the tying run score when you have a play at home.
💡 Decision Tips
- Up by 1, late game = protecting the lead is priority #1
- R3 WILL be running on any ground ball with 1 out
- No force at home (only R on 2nd & 3rd) — catcher must TAG
- Throw to glove side of home plate so catcher can apply the tag
- Don't go to 1st — the tying run scoring is worse than giving up the out
