P C 3B 2B SS LF CF RF 1B R1 R2 R3 BAT grounder throw

⚾ Situation

You are the first baseman. Bases are loaded with 1 out.

Late in the game, your team is ahead by three runs. A ground ball is hit to you.

Where do you throw?

✔ Answer

Throw home — force the runner. No risky tag when there's a force at home. Don't allow another run regardless of the run spread.

Bases loaded means home plate is a force out. The catcher just has to catch the ball and touch the plate.

💡 Decision Tips

  • Bases loaded = force at home, no tag needed
  • Ahead by 3 — still don't give up free runs
  • Home is the priority throw with bases loaded, any out count
  • Catcher can turn DP: home to 1st (pitcher covers)
  • Never assume the lead is safe — stop every run you can
